Palestine Cinema Days
November 2, 2023
The Initiative for Practices and Visions of Radical Care welcomed the festival Palestine Cinema Days in Paris on November 2, 2023.
The 10th edition of the annual festival Palestine Cinema Days was set to occured from October 24 to November 2 in Palestine in various cities in the West Bank and Gaza, but the event was cancelled. The association Aflamuna (support platform for Arab cinema since 1999) and Palestine film Lab proposed to all civil societies and organizations to symbolically host the event.
We hosted a projection of Carol Mansour‘s documentary film Stitching Palestine in which twelve Palestinian women are sitting in front of us and talk about their existence before the diaspora, their memories, lives, and identities. The narrators share their constant fear that the ancient art of embroidery dissapears. They are twelve resiliant, determined and eloquent women, all from very different backgrounds: lawyers, artists, housewives, activists, architects and politicians stitch together the history of their motherland, their dispossesion, and their indefectible faith in the triumph of justice. Through their stories, the individual is interwoven with the collective, while remaining distinctly personal. Twelve women, twelve lives, and as many stories from Palestine; a land whose position was pinned on the world map, but is now embroidered over its entire surface.
This projection, hosted in a small gathering, was followed by a discussion.
