The Forest, the Dreams, and the Photos for Ismaïl
September 13, 2020

During this photographic session, we created "artistic proofs" for Ismail Afghan, an asylum seeker in France, which could then be used as a form of proof for the authorities.
The work of Ismail Afghan is an intricate crossover between contemporary art and traditional Afghan and millenarian techniques of jewellery making.
It mixes shapes, colours, patterns and decorations found in traditional Afghan jewellery. The works are made with contemporary materials taking inspiration from sculptures. Like any other artistic activity, Islamic law, reinforced to the point of absurdity by the Talibans, prohibits the creation of art objects.
In April 2021, Ismail Afghan obtained his refugee status.
